Essentially since the Victorian age, Westerners have been traveling to Egypt in the hopes of capturing the mystery and intrigue of the Nile River Valley. Contemporary travelers are no different. Every year, millions of visitors flock to the sun drenched sands of Egypt to bask in the glory of an ancient civilization. In the winter season, the Nile is flooded not with trade but with tourist cruises shuttling visitors towards points of interest. A major event on these cruises is the Egyptian Costume Disco Party where tourists are asked to dress up in their conception of "Egyptian Dress" and dance to contemporary arab music. In a spectacular display of Orientalism, one can see that not much has changed since Mark Twain described a similar experience in his 1860's account "The Innocents Abroad" This particular video was filmed by Timothy Hull on a research trip to Luxor, Egypt in March 2008.
